“For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” — Jeremiah 29:11 (NLT)
I have read this passage of scripture and heard it preached many times. But today, it hit differently. The words on the page still encouraged me, but they also stung! I realized that my plans for myself were not aligned with God’s plans. This self-defeating mindset had taken root in different areas of my life, and today, my physical health was front and center.
Recognize The Misalignment:
At my heaviest weight, I was faced with the overwhelming realization that my health lifestyle choices were not in line with God’s will for my life. High blood pressure, the threat of diabetes, aches, pains, and other subtle changes in my body were all warning signs. My mindset needed a shift, and I needed it now. I had been sabotaging God’s plans to prosper me by neglecting my health and engaging in unhealthy habits.
Choose The Right Discipline:
As Amber Lia wisely said, “The discipline of healthy living is a far better situation than experiencing the discipline of God because of my gluttony. It’s often been said that losing weight is hard. But being overweight is also hard. Choose your hard!” This truth resonated deeply. Change requires discipline, and I realized that I had been choosing the wrong kind of hard. Instead of enduring the temporary discomfort of self-discipline, I was suffering the long-term consequences of neglect.
No Longer Sabotage The Future:
Jeremiah 29:11 reminded me that God’s plan for me did not include unhealthy patterns of sleep, mindless eating, lack of exercise, or hours of sedentary scrolling. And with every unhealthy decision I made, I was shortening the life God intended for me. I allowed stress, trauma, and low self-esteem to derail me, but that is no longer an option. God has been faithful and good in my life, and it was time for me to be faithful in return.
Align With God’s Will:
God’s Word is not just a book of inspiration—it is a guide for correction and direction toward a lifestyle He planned for you through His Son Jesus.
It says that… “All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” — 2 Timothy 3:16-17 (NLT)
So I needed to not only believe in God’s promises but also make sure that I align my actions with His truth. My faith in His plan must reflect in my daily habits, my mindset, and my choices. Because He desires wholeness for me—spiritually, emotionally, and physically.
So friend, if you find yourself in a similar place, take heart. Because God’s plan is still in motion for you. It’s never too late to align with His will and step into the abundant life He has designed just for you!
Pray this Prayer:
Father, thank You for Your plans to prosper me and not to harm me. Forgive me for the ways I have neglected my health that could potentially sabotage the future You desire for me. Give me the strength to make choices that align with Your will. Help me to walk in self-discipline and honor You with my body, mind, and spirit. I trust in Your guidance and commit to living a life that reflects Your goodness. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Be blessed,
Dee Davis
