Be Confident!

Scripture focus: Jeremiah 9:23-24; 1 John 5:14-15

What does it mean to be confident? The world often defines confidence as believing in yourself—being sure of your abilities, skills, and intelligence. While there is value in self-assurance, the Bible teaches us that true and lasting confidence comes not from within ourselves, but from God.

Many place their confidence in wealth, power, or wisdom, believing these things offer security. However, these worldly foundations are unstable and temporary. As believers, our confidence must be rooted in something greater—God Himself.

The True Source of Confidence

To have confidence means to trust completely in something or someone. The Bible calls us to place our trust, not in our own abilities, but in the Lord:

   •   Jeremiah 9:23-24 reminds us:

“Let not the wise boast of their wisdom or the strong boast of their strength or the rich boast of their riches, but let the one who boasts boast about this: that they have the understanding to know me, that I am the Lord, who exercises kindness, justice and righteousness on earth, for in these I delight,” declares the Lord.

   •   Proverbs 3:5-6 exhorts us:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight.”

Confidence in God, Not Ourselves

We live in a world that promotes self-confidence, urging us to believe in our own strength and determination. But as followers of Christ, we are called to something greater—God-confidence.

   •   We are warned not to trust in ourselves (John 15:5; Philippians 3:3).

   •   We are called to rely not on our strength, but on the power of the Holy Spirit (1 Corinthians 2:4-5).

   •   God is our rock, our refuge, and our security (Psalm 18:2).

This doesn’t mean we should lack self-respect or self-worth. Rather, it means that our ultimate trust, our deepest confidence, should be placed in God—because He is unshakable, eternal, and always faithful.

Reflection

Take a moment to reflect:

   •   Where have you placed your confidence? In your job, finances, skills, or status?

   •   Do you struggle with relying on yourself instead of trusting in God?

   •   How would your life change if your confidence was fully rooted in Christ?

When we shift our confidence from ourselves to God, we find true peace, security, and purpose. No matter the circumstances, we can stand firm, knowing that our confidence is in an all-powerful and faithful God.

Prayer

Father, I thank You for being my rock and my refuge. Forgive me for the times I have placed my confidence in myself, my achievements, or the things of this world. I will fully trust in You and rely on Your strength rather than my own. Holy Spirit, guide me to walk in faith, knowing that You are always in control. My confidence will be rooted in Your love, wisdom, and power. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

No matter what challenges you face today, remember: True confidence comes from God. Trust in Him, and He will never fail you!

Be blessed,

Dee Davis
