"...the Lord, who is the Spirit makes us more and more like him as we are changed into his glorious image." 2 Corinthians 3:18b (NLT)
In God’s eyes, change is essential!
However, change can be daunting! While some eagerly embrace transformation, others approach it with reluctance—or even outright resistance. The reasons vary, but fear often stands at the root: fear of the unknown, fear of losing control, or fear of stepping outside the comfort zone. Resistance to change can also stem from mistrust, discomfort, or even a refusal to be held accountable.
Amber Lia wrote, "Take heart. It's not your fault when others react poorly to your transformation, but we can take responsibility for protecting our journey and measuring our success not by the comments and actions of others, but our willingness to forge ahead in spite of the obstacles."
Through Jesus, we are called to renewal and transformation—to align our lives with His will. Romans 12:2 reminds us, "Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God's will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect." This transformation is not just a one-time event; it’s an ongoing journey of spiritual growth and self-reflection.
The Journey Begins With One Decision
When you recognize areas in your life that need transformation and commit to change, a new journey begins! It may be a shift in mindset, a change in habits, or a commitment to live more fully in alignment with God’s purpose. Regardless of the focus, one decision can change everything. "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!" (2 Corinthians 5:17).
Embracing positive change may disrupt your relationships. Some may celebrate your growth, while others may resist it. Your transformation can serve as a mirror, causing others to reflect on their own lives—and not everyone will welcome that. You may even find that old circles no longer fit, and that’s okay. Growth often requires separation from what no longer serves God’s purpose for your life.
Protecting Your Transformation
The enemy would love to derail your progress, using discouragement, opposition, and even the reactions of others to tempt you back into old ways. That’s why it’s vital to protect your journey. Ephesians 4:22-24 encourages us to "put off your old self, which is being corrupted by its deceitful desires; to be made new in the attitude of your minds; and to put on the new self, created to be like God in true righteousness and holiness."
This means, but is not limited to, setting boundaries, guarding your heart, and remaining steadfast in your faith. It also means responding with grace when others struggle to accept the new you. Transformation isn't just about how others react to you—it’s about how you respond to them as your renewed self.
Embrace and Protect the New You
Choosing to live for Christ is a beautiful and powerful decision, one that should be nurtured and safeguarded. Do not let opposition or negativity deter you. Instead, focus on the truth of God’s Word and the promise of His guidance.
Your change is not a threat—it’s a testimony! Let your transformation shine as a beacon of hope and encouragement for others who may also be longing for change but lack the courage to begin. Keep forging ahead, trusting that God is leading you into a future filled with His divine purpose!
Reflection: Are you ready to embrace the transformation God has for you?
Prayer
Father, thank You for guiding me through this journey of transformation. I claim the strength to embrace change, the courage to stand firm in my faith, and the wisdom to protect the work You are doing in my life. I decree that I will be a light to others, even when my growth challenges them. May my transformation bring glory to You and draw me closer to Your perfect will for my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
Be blessed,
Dee Davis
